Environment
- Microsoft Windows (10 & 11)
- Snipping Tool / Snip & Sketch
- Microsoft Edge & Google Chrome
Instructions
1. Snipping Tool Keyboard Shortcut (Recommended)
- Press Windows key + Shift + S.
- At the top of the screen, select the snip type:
- Rectangular: Drag a box around an object.
- Free-form: Draw a custom shape.
- Window: Capture a specific open window.
- Full-screen: Capture the entire display.
- Once captured, a notification appears in the bottom-right. Click it to open the image in Snip & Sketch for editing.
- Edit and save the image, or press Ctrl + V to paste it directly into an email, document, or chat.
2. Standard Keyboard Shortcuts
Capture Entire Screen
- Press the Print Screen (PrtSc) key. The image is now on your clipboard.
- Press Ctrl + V in your desired application (Word, Paint, Outlook) to paste it.
Capture Active Window Only
- Click on the window you want to capture to ensure it is active.
- Press Alt + Print Screen.
- Press Ctrl + V to paste the image into your chosen program.
3. Capture a Scrolling Screenshot (Full Webpage)
Using Microsoft Edge
- Open the webpage in Microsoft Edge.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + S to open the Web Capture panel.
- Select Capture full page.
- Click the Save icon (floppy disk) in the top-right.
- Access the file via the Downloads folder to view or edit.
Using Google Chrome (Developer Tools)
- Press Ctrl + Shift + I (Windows) or Cmd + Opt + I (Mac) to open Developer Tools.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + P (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + P (Mac) to open the Command Menu.
- Type "screenshot" into the search bar.
- Select Capture full size screenshot. Chrome will automatically download the entire page as a PNG file.
