Marking Google Calendar Events as Spam

Information

Marking a Google Calendar event as spam is a helpful way to clean up your calendar and report malicious invites.

Here are the user-friendly steps, which work best when using a computer browser, as this is where the "Report as spam" option is most easily found.

Environment

  • Google Calendar
  • Browser
  • Computer system or Mobile phone

Process

On a Computer (Recommended)

  1. Open Google Calendar
  2. Click on the spam event you want to report.
  3. In the event details box that pops up, click   More actions
  4. Click Report as spam.
  5. A confirmation box will appear. Click Report as spam

On the Google Calendar Mobile App (Android/iOS)

  1. Launch the Google Calendar app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Tap on the suspicious event you want to report.
  3. In the event details screen, tap More in the top right corner.
  4. Tap Report as spam.

Stop Spam from Appearing Automatically

Spam often appears because your settings are set to automatically add invitations. Changing this can drastically reduce calendar spam!

  1. Open Google Calendar on a computer.
  2. Click the gear icon  in the top right, then select Settings.
  3. On the left, under "General," click Event settings.
  4. Click the drop-down menu for "Add invitations to my calendar".
  5. Change the option to: "Only if the sender is known" (This is a good balance) OR "When I respond to the invitation in email" (This stops all automatic adds).
