Marking Google Calendar Events as Spam

Summary

How to mark a Google Calendar event as spam on computer or mobile phone.

Body

Information

Marking a Google Calendar event as spam is a helpful way to clean up your calendar and report malicious invites.

Here are the steps to report spam. These steps work best when using a computer browser, as the "Report as spam" option is most easily found there.

Environment

  • Google Calendar
  • Web Browser
  • Computer or Mobile device

Process

On a Computer (Recommended)

  1. Open Google Calendar.
  2. Click on the spam event you want to report.
  3. In the event details box that pops up, click the More actions icon (represented by three vertical dots).
  4. Click Report as spam.
  5. A confirmation box will appear. Click Report as spam again to confirm.
Note: Reporting one event from a recurring series will remove all events in that series. The event will be removed from your calendar and Google will be notified.

On the Google Calendar Mobile App (Android/iOS)

  1. Launch the Google Calendar app on your phone or tablet.
  2. Tap on the suspicious event you want to report.
  3. In the event details screen, tap the More icon (three vertical dots) in the top right corner.
  4. Tap Report as spam.

Stop Spam from Appearing Automatically

Spam often appears because your settings are set to automatically add invitations. Changing this can drastically reduce calendar spam.

  1. Open Google Calendar on a computer.
  2. Click the Settings menu (gear icon) in the top right, then select Settings.
  3. On the left sidebar, under "General," click Event settings.
  4. Click the drop-down menu for "Add invitations to my calendar".
  5. Change the option to: "Only if the sender is known" (recommended balance) OR "When I respond to the invitation in email" (prevents all automatic additions).
