Grading Blackboard Discussions

Question

How do I grade Discussion Board posts in Blackboard?

Answer

Setup

  1. Open Blackboard.
  2. Navigate to the desired course. 
  3. Click Discussions from the course menu. 
  4. Click next to the posting title and click Edit. 
  5. Scroll down to Forum Settings and under the Grade section, choose either Grade Discussion Forum with a points possible OR Grade Threads individually. 
  6. Show participants in "needing grading" so students can see this in the grades after they've submitted the post. 
  7. Assign a due date if desired. 
  8. Click Submit. 

Grade Discussions

  • Go to the discussion forum where you want to grade posts.
  • Click on the Grade Discussion Forum button.
  • The Grade Discussion Forum Users page will open. This page shows all of the students in the discussion forum, along with the number of posts they have made.
  • To grade a student's posts, click on the Grade button next to the student's name.
  • In the Grade dialog box, enter the grade for the student's posts. You can also provide feedback to the student.
  • Click on the Submit button.
