A computer is not turning on.
Environment
- Classroom Technology
- Faculty and Staff Workstations
- Lab Computers
Resolution
- Ensure that the power cable is plugged into the back of the computer.
- Ensure that the power cable is plugged into a power strip or wall outlet.
- Ensure that the power strip is plugged into the wall.
- Ensure that the power strip is turned on.
- Press the power button on the computer.
- Ensure that the lights on the computer are on (typically green). If the lights are not turning on, there may be a power supply or internal hardware issue.
- Listen for any noises coming from the computer (such as a fan). If you hear noise but nothing is displaying, there may be a monitor connection issue.
- Ensure the monitor is on and connected correctly:
- A green light indicates it is powered on.
- An orange or yellow light indicates standby mode (monitor is not receiving a signal).
- Switch to a different source on the monitor using the physical source button.
Deep Sleep: If the computer is in a deep hibernation or sleep state, hold down the power button for 20 to 30 seconds to force a full shutdown. Press it once more to power it back on.
