Details
Microsoft 365 is a subscription-based suite of applications provided by Microsoft Corporation. The education version of this suite includes the following applications: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft OneNote. This license remains active as long as you are currently enrolled in classes at GRCC.
Note: Student Microsoft 365 accounts are deactivated 2 years and 6 months after they stop taking classes. Students will not be able to use the Microsoft 365 desktop applications if they are not enrolled in a class in the current semester, but will retain access to their files.
Students can also use the free resources in Google Drive such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
Instructions
Sign In and Install (Standard Access)
Most students enrolled in the current semester already have an account pre-created.
- Open the Microsoft 365 Sign-In Portal (opens in new window).
- Enter your full GRCC student email address and click Next.
- Enter your password and click Next.
- Note: Passwords are not set to synchronize with GRCC network passwords. If you do not know the password that has been set, click Forgot my password and follow the prompts. If you are unable to reset the password yourself, call IT Support at 616-234-4357 for assistance.
- Once signed in, in the left-hand menu, click Apps.
- In the upper-right, click Install apps.
- Click Install Microsoft 365 apps.
- When the file finishes downloading, open it to install the Microsoft 365 apps to your computer. When you are prompted to sign into any of the apps, be sure to avoid selecting "use this account to sign into all services" and click this app only instead.
Self-Registration (If Account Is Missing)
If you are a new student or get an error that your account is not yet set up, follow these steps to register your account manually.
- Visit Microsoft Registration Link (opens in new window).
- Enter your full GRCC student email address and click Get started.
- Click I'm a Student.
- Note: If a message says "You have an account with us," click Sign In and follow directions above.
- Complete the "Create your account" form. You will need the verification code sent from Microsoft to your GRCC email. Enter the code and click Start.
- Click Next to set up at least one of the additional security options listed, then click Finish.
- Complete the "Invite more people" form or click Skip to skip sending invitations.
- Once logged into your new account, click Install and more in the upper right, then click Install Microsoft 365 apps to download and install.
