Install LockDown Browser Extension on a Chromebook

Question

How do I install the LockDown Browser Extension on a Chromebook and use it with Canvas?

• Respondus 
  • LockDown Browser
• Google
  • Chromebook 
  • Chrome
• Canvas

Answer 

1. Sign into the Chromebook and launch Google Chrome. 
2. Download LockDown Browser on the Chrome Web Store page (opens in a new window).
   • The extension is not searchable.  The Chrome Web Store hyperlink must be used above.  
3. Within the Chrome Web Store, click Add to Chrome to install the extension. 
4. Sign into Canvas and navigate to the course with an exam that requires LockDown Browser. 
5. Click Begin to start the test. The LockDown Browser extension will start automatically in full screen mode. 
6. At the completion of the exam click OK to review the results. 
7. Once the test results have been reviewed, click the  in the upper right corner of the LockDown Browser menu bar to exit full screen mode. 
8. Click Continue to exit the exam completion screen. 

Known issues

• The LockDown Browser's Calculator and Spreadsheet features are not supported. 
• The extended keyboard that includes symbols and special characters is not available. 
• Instructors that have enabled the feature to Allow access to specific external web domains is not supported. 
• GRCC IT Support does not provide support for managed Chromebooks.  That is, Chromebooks that are managed by another institution.
