What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Question

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and what does it look like on the MyGRCC portal.

Environment

  • MyGRCC Portal

Information

To increase security, Multi-Factor Authentication (also referred to as 2-Step Verification) is enforced in the MyGRCC portal. MFA adds an additional layer of security to your account in case your passphrase (password) is stolen.

Answer

You’ll sign into your MyGRCC account in two steps using:

  • Something you know, like your passphrase
  • Something you have, like your phone

The default MFA method is by sending a verification code to your personal email that we have on file.

You can choose to remember up to 5 devices for a total of 14 days to prevent having to use MFA at every login.

  • Several factors can affect whether your device is remembered at login. If you use a different browser, Wi-Fi network or location, or if your browser’s cookies and cache are cleared, you may be prompted for MFA.
