How to determine if BitLocker is enabled

How do I tell if my GRCC computer is encrypted?

Information

BitLocker is a full device encryption feature that provides protection to all data in the event of a lost or stolen device.

 

Answer

File Explorer

  1. Open File Explorer.
  2. Click This PC from menu on the left.
  3. Locate the Windows (C:) drive.
    • If the icon shows a lock symbol BitLocker is active and your computer is encrypted.
    • Note the lock will look unlocked when you actively using the computer.

Control Panel

  1. Click Start Menu.
  2. Type Manage BitLocker.
  3. Select Manage BitLocker.
    • If the subsequent page states Windows (C:) BitLocker on, your machine is encrypted.
