Canvas Template/Portfolio Request Process

Question

How do I request a Canvas template or portfolio?

Environment

  • Canvas

Information

A template course is used to develop and organize course content before the official semester course shell becomes available. Once the semester course shell is available, content from the template (e.g., USERNAME.TEMPLATE) can be imported into it.

A portfolio course is used when applying for tenure review or promotion in rank.

Answer

  1. Login to the Online Center
  2. Make sure Employee Self-Service is visible in the upper left corner. If not, click Student Home Page and select Employee Self-Service.
  3. Click the Canvas Template/Portfolio Form tile.
  4. On the Canvas Form page, you’ll see a list of your existing Canvas templates/portfolios.
  5. Click the “+” icon to the right of one of your existing templates. A new row will appear.
  6. Under the Course Type column, use the dropdown menu to choose either Template or Portfolio, depending on your needs.
  7. If you need to create multiple templates or portfolios, repeat the process starting at step 5.
  8. Click Save.

Note: Canvas automated imports are scheduled to run hourly, so it can take up to an hour and a half for the template/portfolio to appear in Canvas.
