Information
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), also known as 2-Step Verification in Google, adds an extra layer of security by requiring something you know (your password) and something you have (like your phone or a security key). This helps protect your Google Workspace account from unauthorized access — even if your password is compromised.
Process
- Go to Your Google Account
- Visit: Google Account Home (opens in a new window)
- Sign in with your Google credentials if prompted.
- Navigate to 2-Step Verification Settings
- On the left sidebar, click Security & sign-in.
- Under the “How you sign in to Google” section, click 2-Step Verification.
- Begin Setup
- Click Get Started.
- Re-enter your password when prompted.
- Choose Your Second Step
- Google will walk you through common MFA options:
- Google Prompt (most common and easiest – push notification to phone)
- Authenticator App (like Google Authenticator or Authy)
- Text message or phone call (less secure)
- Backup Codes
- Security Key (for high-security environments)
- Complete Enrollment
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the method you choose.
- After setup, test the login once to confirm MFA is working correctly.
