Enroll in Google MFA (2-Step Verification)

Body

Information

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), also known as 2-Step Verification in Google, adds an extra layer of security by requiring something you know (your password) and something you have (like your phone or a security key). This helps protect your Google Workspace account from unauthorized access — even if your password is compromised.

Environment

  • Google Workspace

Process

  1. Go to Your Google Account
    1. Visit: https://myaccount.google.com
    2. Sign in with your Google credentials if prompted.
  2. Navigate to 2-Step Verification Settings
    1. On the left sidebar, click Security & sign-in
    2. Under the “How you sign in to Google” section, click 2-Step Verification.
  3. Begin Setup
    1. Click Get Started
    2. Re-enter your password when prompted
  4. Choose Your Second Step
    • Google will walk you through a few common MFA options:
      • Google Prompt (most common and easiest – push notification to phone)
      • Authenticator App (like Google Authenticator or Authy)
      • Text message or phone call (less secure)
      • Backup Codes
      • Security Key (for high-security environments)
  5. Complete Enrollment
    1. Follow the on-screen instructions for the method you choose
    2. After setup, test it once to confirm login works with MFA
