Wired computer mouse not working

Issue

Computer mouse is not working.

 

Environment

  • Classroom Technology
  • Faculty/Staff Workstation
  • Lab Workstation

 

Resolution

 Is the light on the bottom of the mouse on or off?

  • If light is on: 
    • Unplug the mouse for a few seconds then plug it back in.
    • If that does not work, plug it into a different port (if USB only).
    • Reboot the computer.
  • If light is off: 
    • Ensure that the mouse is plugged in.
    • Follow the cord to the back of the computer, make sure it is securely plugged in
    • If it is still not working, unplug the mouse for a few seconds then plug it back in. 
    • If that does not work, plug it into a different port.
    • Reboot the computer.
