Issue
When attempting to use the ImageNow printer from the default Windows Photos application, documents fail to print or get stuck in the print queue.
Environment
- Perceptive Content (ImageNow)
- Microsoft Windows 10 / 11
- Windows Photos App
Resolution
To bypass the compatibility issue between the Photos app and the ImageNow driver, use the following workaround:
- Clear the print queue: Ensure any pending or "Error" status documents are deleted from the ImageNow printer queue before proceeding.
- Locate your image file in its folder, then right-click the file.
- Select Open with from the context menu.
- Choose Paint from the list of applications.
- Once the image opens in Paint, go to File > Print and select the ImageNow printer as usual.
Cause
This functionality was disrupted by a Windows update that altered how the Universal Windows Platform (UWP) Photos app communicates with specialized print drivers like Perceptive Content. Using a "Win32" application like Paint restores the expected printing behavior.
Note: If you frequently capture documents for ImageNow, you may also use the Snipping Tool to capture the image and print directly from there, as it typically avoids this specific bug.
