Change Display Density Settings for Your Gmail Inbox

Tags Gmail

Information

The Display Density settings in Gmail will change how spacious or compact your inbox view will be, and whether attachments will be shown or hidden.

Environment

  • Gmail

Resolution

  1. Open Gmail.
  2. From your Gmail inbox, click on Settings which is the gear in the upper right-hand corner.
  3. Under the Density section, Select Default, Comfortable, or Compact from the Choose a View menu.
    • Default: Inbox adds space between messages for easier viewing, and attachments show with the icon of the type of attachment they are (i.e. PDF, Word, Excel file) and their title.
    • Comfortable: Inbox adds space between messages for easier viewing, but attachments are only denoted as an icon on the right side of the Subject field.
    • Compact: Inbox does not show space between messages, and attachments are denoted as an icon on the right side of the Subject field.
