Lines/Smudges on Prints, Copies, or Scans

Issue

A Ricoh campus printer is printing lines or smudges on a print, copy, or scan.

Environment

  • Ricoh Campus Printer

Cause Check

  • Ensure that there are no smudges, dust, or marks on the flatbed scanner glass, including the narrow glass strip on the left.
    • The small strip of glass on the left is used to scan documents sent through the automatic document feeder (top feeder).
  • Test to see if the smudges or stripes appear on a standard print sent from a computer.
    • Internal prints do not pass over the scanner glass; if smudges still appear on these prints, the issue is likely with an internal hardware component.

If the checks above do not resolve the issue, please contact IT Support at 616-234-4357 or submit a ticket by visiting the Campus Printer Support page and clicking Report a Printer Issue. Please have the device ID number, make/model, room/building location, and serial number ready when you contact us.
