Accessing Network Drives on Mac OS

Danger: Note: With the Domain Migration and change to the new DFS Permissions (opens in a new window) on File Explorer on Windows, there shouldn't be any more manual J or S drive mapping. However the drive mapping on macOS has always been a manual drive map.

Issue

The S or J drives do not show up on a GRCC macOS device.

Environment

  • macOS
  • Shared Network Drive (J or S Drives)

Resolution

  1. Ensure that you are on the desktop to activate Finder as the active Application.
    • Click on the background image
  2. Press Command + K
  3. To Add the J: Drive:
    • Type folder path smb://in.grcc.edu/Users/HomeDir/{username}
  4. To add the S: Drive:
    • Type folder path smb://SS00.in.grcc.edu/Shared
  5. Check the box to save the configuration
    • The drive should now show on the desktop
  6. For easier future access, add each of these folders to the 'Sidebar'.
    1. With the network folder open,
    2. Select File from the toolbar along the top
    3. Select Add to Sidebar
      • Alternate shortcut Control + Command + T
    4. Once they are added to the Sidebar, you can drag them up to the "Favorites" section.
