The Student Navigator will serve as a resource and mentor for students enrolled in the middle college programs through GRCC as part of a 13th year high school cohort model.
This position requires active support and guidance for students as they transition into a collegiate environment. The Student Navigator will ensure students are equipped with the necessary tools and strategies to be successful college students. The Navigator will maintain consistent contact with students and serve as a liaison between faculty and administration at the high schools and Grand Rapids Community College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide onsite support services for GRCC middle college students & programs

Mentor middle college students resulting in increased student retention and completion rates

Input and report student data, providing weekly reports to Academic Outreach team
-
Support the development of non-cognitive skills that are essential for academic success and college persistence (e.g. resilience, self-regulation and advocacy, and social comfort)

Address student needs or challenges in response to early alert reports
-
Proactively intervene when students show early signs of attendance, behavior, or academic concerns
-
Assist in connecting students to college resources for academic and service support
-
Coordinate with high school staff to create individual remediation plans as necessary
-
Maintain appropriate documentation and notes of student interactions, referrals, and resources

Monitor and track student success

Recruit and promote program at outreach and community events

Assist with test proctoring and application processing as needed

Coordinate summer orientation programs for middle college students

Participate in department meetings as needed

This role is a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.

Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Educational Credentials

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

National Career Readiness Certificate preferred (NCRC) but not required
Work Experience

Prior experience working with high school students preferred

Proven student support services and experience with participants with diverse backgrounds and barriers

Experience with at-risk and underrepresented populations preferred

Knowledge of data reporting systems, experience with data tracing and preparing reports
