The Associate Provost of Instructional Support and Institutional Planning provides leadership for key functions of the College’s work. Working closely with the Provost and in collaboration with leaders in Academic and Student Affairs, the Associate Provost leads the work of institutional planning (including institutional accreditation) and instructional support (including program review and outcomes assessment).  

The Associate Provost provides leadership and vision for institutional planning which includes oversight of Institutional Research, the College’s accreditation process, and facilitating the strategic planning process and implementation in collaboration with the Provost and President. At the direction of the President, the Associate Provost will provide institutional updates on these processes to the Board of Trustees.

The Associate Provost provides leadership and oversight of GRCC’s Instructional Support unit, which includes the following areas: Curriculum and Assessment; Transfer and Articulation; Institutional Research; Teaching, Learning, and Distance Education; Student Records and Veterans Services; and the Department of Experiential Learning (which houses Academic Service Learning, the Honors Program, and Study Away). Additionally, the Associate Provost leads the program review process which ensures academic rigor and program vitality.

The Associate Provost serves on the President’s Cabinet, Provost/Deans’ leadership group, Academic and Student Affairs Council, and Academic Governing Council. The Associate Provost leads the Strategic Leadership Team and Strategic Leadership Executive Team, and will serve on the Academic Governing Council Executive Team and the Faculty Evaluation System Team at the request of the Provost.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides College-level leadership for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional support and institutional planning initiatives

  • In accordance with College governance structures, develops policies and processes related to instructional support and institutional planning

  • Works collaboratively with academic and student affairs faculty and staff to encourage best practices in pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment, as well as the other instructional support and institutional planning functions housed in the unit

  • Works collaboratively with academic deans to develop plans for the improvement and evaluation of faculty teaching, of curriculum quality and currency, and of assessment of student learning

  • Works collaboratively with the Provost to administer the faculty evaluation system and to recognize and reward faculty excellence

  • Serves as the College’s liaison or project manager for all aspects of the regional accreditation process.  Reviews Higher Learning Commission protocol; interprets criteria, determines GRCC’s strategy, plan, and response

  • Ensures timely progress of required accreditation documentation, ensuring deadlines are met.  Oversees the preparation of all evaluative reports submitted to the HLC as well as managing site visits and required HLC events

  • Supports and facilitates the College’s strategic planning process and manages the activities of the Strategic Leadership Team 

  • Provides day to day leadership and supports for all strategic planning activities including all team meetings, action project oversight, training of project champions, strategic plan communications, and the college dashboard and indicator reports as well as regular reports to the Board of Trustees regarding strategic plan outcomes

  • Provides leadership and vision to the College’s Institutional Research Office ensuring access to data, integrity of data, and use of data to inform College decision-making

  • Works with the Provost and President to facilitate the consistent and responsible use of data on campus and promote data literacy among the College’s faculty and staff 

  • Establishes and maintains a department and team planning process integrated to the college’s strategic plan

  • Communicates the work of the unit to the College and the College to the unit; updates stakeholder groups as needed

  • Leads the work to ensure the efficient and effective operations of all processes related to instructional support and institutional planning

  • Ensures that the work of Instructional Support and Institutional Planning meets or surpasses all of the following: College policy mandates, state and federal reporting requirements, accreditation standards, copyright laws, GRCC intellectual property guidelines, and ADA requirements

  • Remains current with best practices and new developments in all areas housed in the unit

  • Monitors and responds to faculty and student satisfaction with instructional support and institutional planning

  • Collects appropriate data and prepares reports for internal and external audiences related to the unit

  • Provides oversight for various standing and ad hoc committees, including the Curriculum Approval Team, and the General Education Review Team

  • Manages the budgets of the unit

  • Maintains and builds relationships with community organizations and education partners

  • Supports, supervises, and evaluates direct reports. Convene regular meetings, establish work expectations, and complete annual performance evaluations  

  • Aligned with expectations established by the Provost, sets standards for hiring new staff and regularly reviews the hiring processes to maximize transparency, inclusion, efficiency and effectiveness

  • Allocates resources and other systemic supports to promote professional development for staff 

  • Actively participates in and retains membership in statewide and national organizations and activities that foster the maintenance and improvement of programs

  • Monitors legislative activity at the State and Federal level and provides input to the legislative process as appropriate

  • Participates in collective bargaining teams, as needed and assigned by the President

  • This role is a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

  • Performs other related duties as assigned


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution is required

  • Doctoral degree is preferred

Work Experience

  • Academic leadership experience required – preferably in a Dean role or higher

  • Experience in curriculum and assessment, faculty development, and department planning required

  • Experience with accreditation, strategic planning, and institutional research required

  • Full-time, tenure track teaching experience preferred

  • Community college experience preferred

  • Experience in the areas of transfer and articulation, service learning, honors, and study away desirable
