The Enterprise Systems Engineer and DBA has dual roles: in addition to providing expert consultation for the design, development and implementation of technical solutions of the College’s Enterprise Systems and Infrastructure, Engineer is responsible for the college’s Oracle and MSSQL design, implementation and support.  Recognized as a technical leader and resource. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of technical field's concepts, practices, and procedures including Oracle server infrastructure, Linux, Unix and Microsoft operating systems, Enterprise storage systems, server hardware, virtualization technologies, and computer network systems.  Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Will provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist.  A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Recommend and design new technologies based on priorities set by IT Director of Infrastructure. Evaluate and recommend purchase of computers, network equipment, operating systems, and related hardware and software

  • Design, install, upgrade, backup, and monitor RDBMS solutions, not limited to Oracle, including hardware, operating systems, enterprise storage, networking and database applications

  • Provide DBA functions in conjunction with primary DBA or when the primary DBA is unavailable

  • Provide systems support for enterprise and instructional servers, various operating systems and software applications

  • Design, install, upgrade, and monitor GRCC technology solutions using physical and/or virtual systems

  • Recommend, design, manage and support virtualization servers and associated systems. Implement, maintain and support various operating systems and software applications that are hosted in virtual environments, including virtual desktops

  • Maintain data integrity and application availability using backup solutions including Veeam or Oracle Dataguard, DR solutions including data replication, and high availability solutions incorporated into storage hardware designs

  • Recommend, design, manage and support enterprise storage technologies including storage virtualization

  • Recommend, manage and support security technologies including Active Directory and micro-segmentation

  • Determine, organize, and maintain Infrastructure projects including managing resources, developing timelines, scheduling outcomes and communicating throughout the process

  • Work as a liaison between Infrastructure and the CWIS team to identify and address issues 

  • Provide support and guidance to the college community on how to maximize the usefulness of the RDBMS platform

  • Work with Technology Staff, project managers and customers to evaluate, find and recommend technology solutions for GRCC

  • 24/7 on-call support of any RDBMS platforms or infrastructure systems 

Marginal (Non-Essential) Job Functions

  • Familiarity with networking technologies and integration into virtual environments. Familiar with Cisco IOS

  • Work with the security group to recommend, design, manage and support security technologies

  • Contact and communication with consultants from various companies and supervision while consultants are on premise or remotely connected

  • Train other groups on management and support for any infrastructure systems included in responsibilities

  • Learn new technologies through education delivered via live instructor, distance classroom, webinar or canned video

  • Familiarity with business applications and communication needs

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

  • Performs other related duties as assigned


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Server operating systems, networking technologies, and Enterprise storage systems

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with RDBMS systems including Oracle and MSSQL
