The CD Community Liaison will sustain and develop relationships with established and new community programs and those that serve vulnerable children and families in alignment with the community plan for early care and education.  The Liaison will promote cultural competence and anti-bias education with community and program early childhood professionals.

The Play and Learn GRCC Coordinator will positively impact the learning, development and social skills of young children and improve interactions of caregivers with young children by implementing the Ready by Five millage grant. The Coordinator will support and assist with implementation of all Play and Learn GRCC programming ensuring fidelity to the Ready by Five grant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Community Liaison

  • Sustain and develop new relationships with community, education, and neighborhood groups to engage a diverse range of childcare providers and students for participation in early childhood education opportunities, targeting those that serve at-risk children and families

  • Increase awareness within early childhood community of cultural competence and anti-bias education

    • Offer training to Early Childhood programs in the area of cultural competence

    • Engage community Early Childhood professionals in discussion/reflection to explore bias and stereotype and how that impacts our work with children and families; utilizing books, videos, articles and current events

  • Interact with community members/programs serving vulnerable children/families; participating in community initiatives that support the goals of the Early Childhood Learning Laboratory

    • Attend and participate in community meetings including: GSQ Kent Resource Center, Bright Beginnings, Great Start Parent Collaborative, Great Start to Quality—local and State Advisory, ELNC, Head Start for Kent County, Early Learning Partners, Shared Services, Emergency Crisis Team, KISD DEI team

    • Participate in work groups as appropriate

    • Organize and schedule visitors to the ECLL for tours, observation room use, multipurpose room use

  • Recruitment/Advising; promoting an increase in diverse students enrolling and completing Child Development coursework

    • Support Fast Track CDA students in application/enrollment process and applying for TEACH Scholarship

    • Steepletown Apprentice Program—support student in each cohort providing application sessions, orientation sessions and individual follow up as needed

    • Junior Achievement Presentations at local middle/high school

    • Attend high school college fairs such as EKH Future Fest

    • Planned 6-week high school senior summer experience in CD (canceled due to Covid)

  • Training/mentoring community early childhood professionals (students, teachers, childcare providers), supporting them in completing training/coursework to increase Early Childhood knowledge and providing high quality care. Includes presenting at workshops/conferences to share the work of ECLL and Child Development program

    • Interact with In-Home Child-Care Providers offering a monthly training opportunity 

    • Offer two half day training sessions per year for Home and Center Based providers

    • Attend New In-Home Provider orientation offering coursework and training for those newly entering the field

    • Support Fast Track CDA students in following through on completing their CDA once GRCC coursework is complete

    • Offer training at the annual Campfire 4C’s conference, MiAEYC conference, and programs at the KISD

    • Support interns—FSU and Aquinas Prep

  • Engage with ECLL staff/families to build relationships; plan/support activities focused on exploring differences and building cultural competence

    • Monthly children’s book feature for families

    • Staff training/book discussions/reflection

  • Gather data and maintain databases that document project targets and outcomes

  • Develop materials for use during tours and observations

  • Manage schedule related to all community engagement opportunities

  • Maintain all necessary licensing requirements to work in preschool setting, such as current physical, TB test and DHS clearance.  These are to be updated as required by licensing.  Failure to do so shall result in disciplinary actions

Play and Learn Coordinator

  • Hiring and onboarding of Play and Learn staff, maintain staff files, goals and professional development

  • Supervise all Play and Learn staff (Lead Coach, Coaches, Assistant to Coaches) Communication and training of staff including monthly meetings

  • Staff goal setting, professional development and annual reflection/evaluation

  • Program development—enrollment, scheduling, program promotion, Covid alternate program options including Newsletters, Home Connections, Play and Learn Bags, Book Mailings and Home Provider Pilot

  • Order materials/supplies; creating forms and printing

  • Develop and maintain community partnerships

  • Program evaluation/adjusting to meet the needs of the community

  • Data collection and monthly submission to Kent County Health Department and First Steps Kent

  • Quarterly reports and Metrics to FSK

  • Provide supporting documentation for monthly invoice

  • Explore strategies to meet the needs of the most vulnerable families within our community

  • Prepare for and participate in annual assessment by FSK

  • Work collaboratively with the Early Learning Coaches to support program services

  • Coordinating and scheduling site usage

  • Collect and input required data; enrollment, demographic, and services

  • Analyze data to ensure meeting program goals

  • Develop and implement feedback loop to collect Quarterly Metrics and evaluate program needs

  • Participate in Ready by Five QIC meetings

  • Collaborate with other Ready by Five Play and Learn programs in the community

  • Facilitates Quarterly Program Supply Drive with required tracking and value estimation

  • Work with APSS in preparing monthly invoice, budgeting

  • Develop MiRegistry Course, maintain provider attendance records

  • Reflect regularly on all aspects of the Play and Learn GRCC program and make suggestions for improvement 

  • Promote teamwork and good communication among all Play and Learn GRCC staff and all personnel from partner agencies

  • Update website with current early childhood community events

  • Work with GRCC to provide all aspects of program evaluation  

  • Support the mission, vision, values and key strategies of GRCC

  • Participate in goal setting and evaluation requirements as staff of GRCC

  • This role is a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

  • Performs other related duties as assigned


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Master’s Degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development with Early Childhood coursework and experience

Work Experience

  • Five years’ experience in working with young children Birth to 5 years  

  • Experience overseeing program management

  • Experience working with children, families, and staff with diverse backgrounds

  • Ability and aptitude to establish relationships with Play and Learn GRCC staff and partner agencies
