The Director for the Woodrick Center for Inclusion & Multicultural Affairs provides vision and leadership for a variety of programs and services to facilitate success, access, retention, and completion for all students, including students from historically underrepresented populations. The Director works with students, faculty, staff, and administrators across the College to create a sense of belonging for students, including, without limitation, historically marginalized populations.
The Director of the Woodrick Center is responsible for developing and implementing strategies, programs, and initiatives that support student success, including supporting students in earning a credential, certificate, or degree that leads to successful transfer to a four-year institution or entry into the job market. To achieve this goal, the Director focuses on cultivating one-on-one support and advocating for students, advising student groups, providing multicultural programming, supporting academic success programs, and building positive and collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Access, Retention, and Completion

Improve access, retention, and completion for underserved student populations by strategically planning and leading student success initiatives that contribute to increased access, retention, and completion
-
Create and execute a comprehensive strategy to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging within academic and student success areas of the institution that serves to support increased student retention and completion rates
-
Facilitate the College fostering a welcoming and supportive environment that leads to a sense of community, connection to the College, and sense of belonging for students through policy recommendations, programs, and training initiatives

Plan and implement co-curricular, educational, and social programming for students, including but not limited to the college’s annual Diversity Lecture Series
-
Support College efforts to engage with the larger GRCC community to provide programming for K-12 students and external stakeholders
Equity and Inclusion: Campus Leadership, Collaboration, and Support Services

Provide support, education, and leadership at Grand Rapids Community College to increase inclusion and equity for students

Serve as a subject matter expert regarding best practices and national standards based upon research and literature review

Partner with student affairs professionals to enhance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within student programs and services

Engage with student organizations and support their efforts to promote equity and inclusion

Maintain confidentiality and provide a safe space for students to discuss concerns

Advocate for, and work to ensure, fair treatment and equal access for all students
Data Analysis and Reporting

Utilize consistent systems for tracking and reporting on student programs and outcomes, and provide measurable information on participation, retention, and graduation rates

Design and implement evaluation methods, instruments, and strategies to assess operational and programmatic effectiveness

Monitor and evaluate the impact of initiatives to drive increases regarding retention and completion among underrepresented populations at GRCC
-
Collect and analyze data to assess operational and programmatic effectiveness

Ensure all data analysis and reporting is consistent with college-wide efforts and provided in collaboration with GRCC’s Institutional Research area and Strategic Plan goals and metrics
Training and Development
-
Provide training and workshops to faculty, staff, students and the community on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. These may include, but are not limited to, the College’s Diversity Lecture Series

Foster a culture of continuous learning and awareness regarding issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
-
Support academic departments in integrating inclusive teaching practices in collaboration with the Teaching, Learning, and Distance Education area and School Deans’ Offices
Center Oversight, Process Development, and Administration and Resource Management

Provide administrative leadership, support, and supervision for the Woodrick Center
-
Ensure timely submission and review of annual department plan and report in alignment to the Student Success division’s plan, the Provost’s vision, the College’s Strategic Plan, and mission of the College

Manage departmental budget(s)

Collaborate with supervisor to advocate, develop, and implement budgetary, space, and technology resources for the Center

Allocate Center resources and other systemic supports to identify, promote, and support professional development for Center office staff

Supervise and evaluate Center office staff

Approve payroll and leaves for Center office staff

Where appropriate, provide assistance, consultation and/or management of complex student situations in accordance with College policies and procedures

This role is a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act.

Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

Educational Credentials

Master’s degree in relevant field, including but not limited to higher education, social justice, or diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is required
Work Experience
- Minimum of three years’ full-time experience in higher education is required

Extensive experience in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in higher education is required
-
Community college experience is preferred

Strong understanding of academic and student life environments is preferred
