The Enterprise Database Administrator is responsible for maintaining the Oracle RDBMS environment behind the applications which run the college.  Duties involve keeping the current environment stable and secure, as well as investigating and recommending future changes and upgrades.  These duties require a deep familiarity with Oracle software as well as strong skills in Linux administration to maintain the multiple Oracle platforms and applications.  The Enterprise Database Administrator often stands between the infrastructure team and the applications programming team, and must have excellent communications skills to keep both teams apprised of the current state of the college as well as future plans while respecting the diverse viewpoints of these disparate teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Monitor enterprise RDBMS for functionality and performance

  • Evaluate and apply upgrades to RDBMS as necessary to maintain functionality

  • Evaluate and apply security patches and updates as recommended by RDBMS vendor and GRCC security office

  • Develop and maintain RDBMS backup and recovery plan, including DataGuard server and instances

  • Maintain Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control server and software

  • Work with Technology Staff, project managers and customers to evaluate, find and recommend technology solutions for GRCC

  • 24/7 on-call support of any infrastructure systems

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

  • Performs other related duties as assigned


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related

  • Oracle Database Administration certification, or strong background in Oracle RDBMS installation, configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting, tuning

Work Experience 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Oracle RDBMS Administration

  • Minimum 2 years of experience with linux system administration

Skills

  • Problem solving and analytical skills

  • Ability to create and troubleshoot SQL and PL/SQL

  • Utility scripting to enhance/automate job functions

  • Communication and teamwork skills

  • Basic Linux administration

Physical Demands
