Under the administrative direction of the Director of Institutional Research and College Data Officer, the data and reporting analyst will maintain assurance of data integrity and reporting that is necessary to enhance organizational performance and planning, as well as ensure compliance with all state and federal reporting requirements. This includes the preparation of internal and external reports, data submissions, and data presentations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares state, federal, and college accountability reports according to documented requirements ensuring accuracy and timeliness

  • Develops and prepares data reports as required by the college to monitor and track key metrics

  • Utilizes technologies to develop and implement processes for extracting, collecting, linking, analyzing, and reporting data from a variety of sources, including internal systems, state and federal agencies, other higher education institutions, and the employment sector

  • Monitors the overall integrity of reported data and takes appropriate steps to correct data discrepancies when noted

  • Develops the best means for communication and presentation of data findings for stakeholder data informed decision-making, including appropriate use of data visualizations and other data communication methods tailored to the specific stakeholder/audience needs

  • Completes data surveys and questionnaires on behalf of Grand Rapids Community College as requested

  • Assists in the analysis of data needed for the department and college projects using appropriate software

  • Assists in, or leads, the development, coordination, and implementation of research, evaluation, and planning projects as assigned that include best practices in data disaggregation to highlight gaps for GRCC stakeholder data-informed decision-making

  • Supports departmental and institutional efforts related to data governance

  • Serves on college-wide teams and committees as appropriate

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and collaborative working relationships with other analysts in the Institutional Research department, college, community, and agency partners

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, information systems, computer science, education, social science or related field required

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred

Work Experience 

  • At least three years of experience in data and reporting work required. Experience in a higher education setting is highly preferred

  • Work experience must show the gathering and merging of data from various sources; tabulating or classifying data into prescribed formats, forms, or reports; and use of computers to retrieve, tabulate, and report

  • Experience with data systems, including technical understanding of data warehousing and data mining required

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications required

  • Experience using data visualization methods and software preferred

  • Experience using student information systems is preferred
