SUMMARY

The Nursing Student Success and Completion Coordinator at GRCC will serve all nursing students with an emphasis on students who make up underrepresented populations in nursing. This role will serve in a vital capacity to support the academic success and holistic development of the nursing student population, especially helping with transfer completion. They work closely with students to provide guidance, support, and resources to help them continue education in support of future careers and schooling related to continuing education.

At Grand Rapids Community College, success coaching and degree completion is provided throughout the student lifecycle and across various student support programs. This position is funded via grant through Fall 2026.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide assessment and interpretation of academic progression and develop appropriate success plans for students that are unsuccessful in course attempts.
  • Work with students individually to navigate barriers and to develop plans for success.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the nursing program requirements, program completion, transfer partnerships and admission requirements for transfer programs.
  • Track and follow up with referred students and/or students who are not meeting minimum passing standards.
  • Connect students to career, work, or skills based experiential learning activities.
  • Document and monitor the academic progress of individual and/or identified groups of nursing students.
  • Work with individual and/or referred nursing students to establish a plan for success/completion, including study methods, use of coping skills, stress reduction, time management, organization and test taking strategies.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty and program director on opportunities for growth, and potential areas for development.
  • Collaborate with RN to BSN transfer institutions and clinical partners to develop opportunities for career exploration through job shadowing, informational interviewing, and community and workforce engagement.
  • Increase job readiness for students by building professional networks, job tools, and social media presence.
  • Participate in staff meetings, review success data for special populations to inform academic and career advising interventions.
  • Provide holistic individual/group career and transfer information, and develop electronic career and transfer resources to connect students with information for their post-GRCC goals.
  • Develop academic, career, and transfer resources for classroom faculty when working with both prospective and current students.
  • Collect data and prepare and/or assist with annual reports as needed (i.e. grant, departmental, and/or accreditation related reports)
  • Support GRCCs Strategic Plan through expected activities of employee development and business success.
  • Other duties as assigned to support student success and completion and departmental needs.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree required BSN highly preferred
  • Degree in Higher Education, School Counseling, Social Work, or related field preferred.
  • Current Nursing License highly preferred

Work Experience

  • 2 or more years in Career and Academic Advising, preferred experience in working with Nursing programs OR 2 or more years in working with community college students and/or adult learners.
  • Experience with assessing student needs and identifying barriers to student success. Create/build a supportive network for students to be successful in the nursing program. Experience with creating success/action plans for students.
