Enable Screen Reader in PeopleSoft and Online Center

With the upcoming rollout in June 2024, PeopleSoft is introducing a new method for enabling ADA accessibility, specifically the screen reader functionality.

 

Environment

  • PeopleSoft (CS/HR/FS and the Online Center)

 

Process

Accessing Screen Reader Mode

  • An accessibility icon will be located at the top of the page when accessing PeopleSoft via a computer or tablet, and at the bottom of the page when using a mobile phone.
  • Click the accessibility icon to access the following options

Enable Screen Reader Mode 

Displays the popup that is shown when Enable Screen Reader Mode is selected. It says: Screen reader mode will be enabled. Would you like to persist this setting for subsequent sessions? with a Yes, No, and Cancel button displayed.

  • For This Session: Activates screen reader mode for the current session.
  • Persist for Subsequent Sessions: Keeps screen reader mode active for all future logins for the selected environment. 

 

Disable Screen Reader Mode

  1. Click for the Action Menu.
  2. Select My Preferences.
  3. Open General Settings.
  4. Under Accessibility Layout, select Screen reader mode off.
  5. Click Save.

The My Preferences page is displayed with the General Setting section selected. The Accessibility Layout choice is highlighted by a box and has a field that can be clicked to enable/disable the screen reader mode.

Keyboard Shortcuts: Displays the available keyboard shortcuts.

Accessibility Help: Provides help pages, including:

  • Welcome: Introduction and overview of available help.
  • Screen Reader Mode: Instructions on using the screen reader.
  • Page Layout in Screen Reader Mode: Details on page layout in screen reader mode.
  • About Keyboard Shortcuts: Information on benefits and usage of keyboard shortcuts.
