Issue
A file was accidentally deleted from the S: or J: Drive.
Environment
Resolution
Note: This method is not guaranteed to work 100% of the time. Backups are performed every 4 hours. Various network conditions may result in recently deleted files being expunged from the network.
This process must be performed while physically on campus or via VMware and is not accessible via VPN.
- Navigate within Explorer to the folder (...but not inside the folder) that previously contained the file you want to recover.
- Right click on the folder.
- Choose Restore previous versions...
- A Folder Properties window will appear listing backed up versions from a 2 week span.
- If the file you're missing is more than 2 weeks old please contact the IT Customer Support Desk and we may be able to have our engineers restore the file.
- Open the backed up folder.
- If the file is listed in the open folder, open the file and re-save it to the S drive.
- If trying to recover data older than two weeks, create a ticket for Infrastructure with details like name of the file and the location of where the file was before being deleted.
