Environment

Information
Before traveling internationally, it is important to plan for the technology access you will need at your destination. Certain technologies are restricted in specific nations, and access to GRCC resources may be limited depending on your location. Additionally, some security access controls may function differently while abroad.
Email Access
Your GRCC email is not blocked internationally. If you are unable to log in through the MyGRCC portal, you can access your inbox directly by going to gmail.com and signing in with your MyGRCC credentials.
Staff Equipment & Security
Staff traveling internationally are strongly advised not to use their regularly assigned college equipment. Instead, the following protocols apply:
- Loaner Laptops: Staff must use a laptop from the IT loaner pool.
- Imaging: The laptop must have a fresh system image before departure and must be re-imaged upon return before it reconnects to the GRCC network.
- Encryption: All international loaner laptops must be fully encrypted.
- Approvals: Travel must be approved by a supervisor or dean (as noted in Use of College Equipment Off College Property policy 11.6).
PeopleSoft & High Risk Locations
- PeopleSoft: Access to PeopleSoft environments (Online Center, CSProd, FSProd, and HRProd) requires specific approval for use anywhere outside of North America.
- Web Domains: While grcc.edu domains are generally available globally, certain "high-risk" countries require a higher level of approval and a business justification for access.
High-Risk Countries Include:
- Afghanistan
- Bangladesh
- Brazil
- China
- Egypt
- Hong Kong
- India
- Iran
- Lebanon
- Nepal
- Nigeria
- North Korea
- Pakistan
- Romania
- Russia
- Saudi Arabia
- Singapore
- Turkey
- Ukraine
- Vietnam
Answer
Students
If you are accessing GRCC resources from a high-risk country and find your access is blocked, it is recommended that you use a VPN service. Alternatively, you may submit a request to IT Services with your travel dates and specific locations for further assessment. Please use this Student International Travel Access form.
Staff
-
VDI/Staff Remote: These services can currently be accessed from North America only.
-
International Travel Access: If you are traveling to any of the high-risk countries listed above, you must submit a Faculty/Staff International Travel Access form. You will be prompted to provide your specific travel locations and dates.
Important: Work-Sponsored International Travel If you are traveling internationally for work-sponsored purposes, a Leave of Absence (LOA) form must be submitted first. Following the LOA submission, the request for technology or resource access must be submitted by your Supervisor, Dean, or Associate Dean on your behalf. Requests submitted directly by the traveling staff member for work purposes will not be processed.
