Adding a Windows Computer to Active Directory

Issue

How to add a computer running Microsoft Windows to the GRCC Active Directory.

 

Environment:

  • Microsoft Windows
  • Active Directory

 

Resolution

  1. Log into the computer using administrative credentials
  2. Launch the Windows Explorer application
  3. Right-click This PC on the left hand navigation pane.
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Click the Rename this PC (advanced) link located on the right-hand side of the window.
  6. Click the Change button on the Computer Name tab. This will launch the Computer Name/Domain Changes window.
  7. Click the Domain radio button.
  8. Enter GRCC's Active Directory address into the text box associated with Domain. (in.grcc.edu)
  9. Click the OK button on the Computer Name/Domain Changes window to confirm your changes.
  10. Click the OK button when prompted to close the domain welcome message.
  11. Click OK when prompted to close the restart notification message.
  12. Click the Close button to close the System Properties window.
  13. Click the Restart Now button to restart the computer and complete the process.
