Microphone Muted by System

Issue

I recently received a new computer. I am having trouble with the microphone during Google Meet meetings. I can hear others, but they can't hear me. I tried to troubleshoot it but was not able to resolve the issue.

Environment

Resolution

Windows Sound Settings

  1. Open the Classic Sound Control Panel by pressing Windows Key + R.
  2. Type mmsys.cpl and press Enter.
  3. Go to the Recording tab.
  4. Select Microphone.
  5. Select Properties.
  6. Select Levels and make sure the microphone is not muted.

Google Meet Settings

While in Google Meet:

  1. Click the three dots (More options).
  2. Point to Settings.
  3. Go to Audio.
  4. Under Microphone, explicitly select your actual microphone (do not select "Default").
  5. Click Test and speak.
  6. Leave the meeting and rejoin.
