Fixing AD trust relationship errors

Issue

How do I fix an Active Directory (AD) Trust Relationship Error?

Environment

  • Windows 11

Resolution

  1. Contact one of the current administrators (Noah, Steve, or Antonio) to retrieve the current Active Directory randomized stored password.
  2. Log in (in person or remotely) using the local administrator account.
Info: Remote Technicians: If the technician is remote and utilizing Splashtop, these requests should be sent to the Desktop Team.
  3. Right-click the Start button and select System.
  4. Select About.
  5. Select Advanced system settings.
  6. Select the Computer Name tab.
  7. Select the Change... button.
  8. Select the Domain radio button and type in.grcc.edu.
    • If "in.grcc.edu" already exists in the domain field, simply type IN.
  9. Provide Domain credentials when prompted.
Warning: Duplicate Name Error: If an error states "a name already exists," there is a conflict with another device on the network. This may require deleting the previous Object in Active Directory Users and Computers.
  10. Select OK and then Close to exit all open dialog windows.
  11. Restart the system.
