Question

Can Microsoft 365 applications be installed and used on an iOS device (iPhone or iPad)?

Student vs. Employee Access Rules

Before attempting to sign in to mobile applications, verify your GRCC account classification to use the correct login string:

• General Students: Automatically assigned an A3 Student Use Benefit License. You can download mobile apps and sign in using your standard student credentials.
• Full-Time Faculty, Staff, and Adjunct Faculty: Assigned an A3 License. You can download mobile apps and activate editing features using your employee cloud login string.
• CEBA, Contingents, and Student Employees: Assigned an A1 License (Web Apps Only). While you can download the free apps from the App Store for basic viewing, your license does not include mobile app activation or editing rights. You must access your work tools via a web browser through the MyGRCC portal.

Resolution for Employees (Faculty, Staff, & Adjuncts)

1. On your iOS device, open the Apple App Store.
2. Search for and download the individual Microsoft 365 applications you require (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint).
3. Open the downloaded application.
4. When prompted to sign in, you must enter your centralized employee cloud credential format: username@cloud.grcc.edu (for example: jsmith@cloud.grcc.edu).
5. Complete the Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication on the GRCC login screen.

Resolution for General Students

1. On your iOS device, open the Apple App Store.
2. Search for and download the desired Microsoft 365 applications (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint).
3. Open the application.
4. Select Sign In and enter your standard GRCC student email address: username@email.grcc.edu (for example: johnsmith@email.grcc.edu). Do not use the employee @cloud domain.
5. Enter your standard student password to authenticate your license.

Alternative Mobile Access: Omnissa Horizon Virtual Environment

If you need to access full desktop-grade Office features (such as Microsoft Access or Publisher) on an iOS device, or if you hold a web-only A1 license, you can connect remotely to a virtual desktop environment:

• Staff and Faculty: Review the configuration guide for Using Omnissa Horizon for Staff Remote Access (opens in new window).
• Web Portal Access: Alternatively, you can always log into the browser-based environment directly through the MyGRCC Student and Employee Portal (opens in a new window) and select the central Microsoft 365 Single Sign-On tile.
