Issue
A computer is prompting for a BitLocker Password/Key upon boot.
Environment
- Windows 11
- BitLocker
- TeamDynamix
Cause
Bitlocker will prompt for a password any time it detects a hardware or firmware change. This can include new hardware being installed or removed, or boot order change to name a few.
Note: This can also happen in the BIOS is set to Legacy and not UEFI. This will need to be corrected to stop the prompt from recurring.
Resolution
Ensure the user is using the function numbers at the top of the keyboard.
- Verify the caller
- Navigate to the BitLocker Administration and Monitoring website
- Click on the Drive Recovery tab
- Fill out the recovery form
- User Domain: in.grcc.edu
- User ID: User's GRCC username (ex. johnsmith)
- Key ID: Enter the first eight (8) characters of the Recovery ID as dictated by the user
- This is the characters displayed on screen that the user sees.
- Reason for Drive Unlock: Choose the most accurate reason for requesting a drive unlock
- Click Submit
- Relay the Drive Recovery Key to the user
- Click Done when the user confirms that the drive successfully unlocked
- Note: Drive recovery keys are reset after each successful drive unlock
Note: BitLocker passwords should only be relayed over the phone once the caller and Recover ID have been verified.
If missing from TDX
- BitLocker keys will henceforth be removed from the TDX Asset Fields
