Student Support Services

Academic & Career Coaching

Students are matched with Success Coaches who help develop and maintain an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Coaches provide regular check-ins, progress monitoring, and guidance on navigating campus and community resources. Students also receive support in goal setting, program planning, and referral to tutoring or instructional help as needed.

Career Exploration & Employment Services

Participants receive help exploring career options and gaining experience through job shadowing, employer panels, and work-based learning when available. Students also benefit from:

  • Resume and cover letter development

  • Interview preparation

  • Connections to local employers and career opportunities

  • Access to employer-led advisory councils for current labor market insights

Financial Support (Eligibility-Based)

Some students may qualify for financial assistance, including:

  • Tuition, fees, and course materials

  • Technology purchases (e.g., laptops, webcams)

  • Transportation support (e.g., bus passes, mileage reimbursement)

  • Professional clothing for interviews or work

  • Certification or licensure exam fees

Support is determined on a case-by-case basis and is subject to program or grant guidelines and available funding.

Personal Support Services

To help students balance school and life responsibilities, additional assistance may include:

  • Child care cost reimbursement

  • Mental health counseling referrals

  • Emergency support for housing, food, or utilities

  • Help applying for public assistance programs (e.g., SNAP, Medicaid)

Referrals may be made to on-campus services (such as Get Help) or partner organizations depending on need and availability.

Academic & Technology Resources

Students have access to a range of resources designed to support learning success, including:

  • Free or subsidized access to software

  • Loaner laptops (limited number)

  • Help navigating Canvas, or other GRCC software

  • Study skills workshops, time management training, and exam preparation tools

Community and Peer Connections

Support programs often include opportunities for peer networking and community-building through:

  • Cohort-based learning groups

  • Student or faculty-led events and workshops

  • Participation in employer site visits and career fairs
