Unable to Add Content in Blackboard: Quota Exceeded

Issue

I'm getting an error message when adding content to my Blackboard course. The message says my quota has exceeded and/or the assignment failed to upload.

 

Environment 

  • Blackboard

 

Resolution

Each course has a size limit of 500 MB of storage available.  Review the following suggestions to best manage content for your course:

Verify Quota Usage 

  1. Open Blackboard
  2. Navigate to Tools from the menu to the left. 
  3. Click Content Collection
  4. From the menu to the left, click Course Content > Courses
  5. Click the folder of the course with the error. 
  6. Locate the Available Quota and Total Quota towards the top right side of the screen. 
  7. If the course exceeds the 500 MB limit and/or is close to going over, review further suggestions in this article below. 

Delete Files

Go through any content within the course storage folder that might not be needed.  This could include:

  • Duplicated course copy folders. 
  • Large video files. 

Select any content folders you wish to remove by placing a next to the folder and click Delete

Use My Content

Consider moving any content from your course content folders to the My Content section of Blackboard. This is consider your own Blackboard storage and is unlimited. 

  • My Content can be found through Tools > Content Collection > My Content > click your username. 
  • You can upload new content OR move content from course content folders to this folder. 
  • To move existing content
    1. Open the desired course content folder.
    2. Click the next to the file and click Move
    3. Under Destination, click Browse
    4. A window should open with your content page. Click the folder within My Content where you want the file stored.
      • If a folder has not yet be create, navigate back to the My Content area and create a folder before moving an existing content over. 
    5. Click Submit

Upload Videos to the Cloud 

If you have large video files, consider uploading them to a cloud storage solution and linking them to your course.
