FutureTech Careers Program Information What is FutureTech Careers? The FutureTech Careers Program is a program for motivated students interested in gaining work experience in the emerging technology fields of AI, CyberSecurity, and Advanced Manufacturing while at GRCC. The FutureTech Careers Program provides you access to co-curricular activities and experiential learning opportunities that will give you a competitive edge in the job market. If you’re passionate about tech, excited about gaining real-world experience, and want to dive into the dynamic and promising future of the industry, the FutureTech Careers Program will support you in establishing yourself as an emerging tech professional.
FutureTech Careers Program Information How do I participate in FutureTech Careers? FutureTech Careers offers students multiple opportunities to develop skills and gain hands-on experience in the tech industry. Our Career Conversations offer students a chance to develop skills like networking, interviewing, and resume writing. Some of our Career Conversations also include guest speakers/industry professionals who can provide insight into what it is like to work in their industry/sub-industry (examples of sub-industries include AI, CyberSecurity, Software Development, etc). Aside from Career Conversations, FutureTech Careers also provide students with hands-on work experience opportunities in the form of job shadowing and internships. Availability of job shadowing and internship opportunities vary based on employer needs and students' skillsets.
FutureTech Careers Program Information, Experiential Learning Opportunities How do I get an internship or job shadow? Our Job Developer, Consuelo White, is in constant communication with the West Michigan tech industry to identify internship and job shadow opportunities for GRCC students. Availability of internship and job shadow opportunities depends on industry/employer needs. Internships and job shadow opportunities may not be available to all students. Students who are new to exploring the tech industry are encouraged to attend Career Conversations events to build the soft skills that employers are looking for that will prepare them for an internship later down the line.
Future Tech Careers Program Information, Career Conversations What are Career Conversations? Our Career Conversations series help students build skills like networking, resume writing, interviewing, etc, Aside from skill development, Career Conversations also aim to enrich students' understanding of the tech industry by inviting in tech industry professionals (examples: tech industry recruiters, software developers, data scientists, etc.) to speak about what it's actually like to work in the tech industry and what skills are required to thrive in the industry. While students may believe they already have these skills or industry knowledge, it's important to attend these events to continue to hone your skills and further build your knowledge base about the tech industry. Career Conversations with guest speakers and industry professionals are excellent networking opportunities for students.
FutureTech Careers Program Information Does GRCC/MTEC offer the CompTIA +A exam? Our program is designed to equip students with the knowledge needed to pass the two CompTIA A+ certification exams: Core Hardware and Operating System Technologies. Many programs include the cost of the exam with the class. Additionally, we will provide a voucher for taking the exam at a designated testing center.
FutureTech Careers Program Information Does GRCC/MTEC reimburse students for purchasing their own laptop or desk top?

Currently, we do not offer reimbursement for the purchase of computers or accessories. However, the GRCC library provides loaner laptops to students. For those interested in purchasing refurbished computers, please click the following links for more information:
