*For the purposes of this article, “FTC staff” refers to personnel from participating colleges and partner organizations involved in FutureTech Careers activities.*
Eligibility
Dual-enrolled students qualify for FutureTech Careers (FTC) program, provided they are enrolled in an approved program.
- Credit-based courses: Typically no age restriction.
- Non-credit job training programs: Usually require participants to be 18+.
- FTC benefits (coaching, workshops, Career Success Program, etc.):
- No age requirement.
- Accessible to all dual-enrolled FTC participants.
Note: Some training programs and employer-based opportunities may have additional age or safety restrictions.
Students should ask their FTC Coach for clarification.
Enrollment Timing
- In most cases, FTC enrollment will occur after dual-enrollment process is completed.
- FTC does not assist with the dual-enrollment registration process itself.
Required Intake
All participants must complete the standard FTC intake form.
There are no FTC-specific forms for dual-enrolled.
Required fields by the grant include:
- Social Security Number (SSN)
- Selective Service status
Special note for minors
- If a minor does not have an SSN, they can still enroll in FTC.
- Staff should monitor updates as the dual-enrollment process matures.
Communication Expectations
All directly involved parties should be CC’d in communications:
- Student
- High School Counselor
- GRCC Dual Enrollment Office
- Future Tech Coach
- Referring Community Partner
- Others, if needed
Standard FTC Process Steps
- Student referral to FTC.
- FTC Coach contacts the student to explain next steps and confirm eligibility.
- Student completes the standard FTC intake form.
- Student begins participation in FTC-related events.
- FTC Coach tracks progress and follows standard case note expectations.
- Student participates in ongoing activities such as career conversations and workshops.
Notes on Program Restrictions
- Job training programs (located a M-TEC campus) generally require participants to be 18+ due to equipment and safety rules.
- Some Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities may have employer-imposed age requirements.
- Students should ask their FTC Coach about minimum age policies for specific programs.
