Programs and Training Options

Job Training Programs

  • Intensive, non-credit, financial-aid-eligible programs.

  • Flexible start dates in July, September, November, January, and April.
  • Available programs: Automotive, Welding, Construction, Electrical, Residential Construction, Machinist/CNC (ATC Campus), Computer Support (Remote), and Medical Assistant.
  • Up to 12–13 credits may transfer toward related associate degrees.
  • Costs average $6,800 for residents and $7,200 for non-residents, substantially offset by grants.​​​

Workforce Training Programs

  • Shorter, non-financial-aid-eligible options focused on rapid skill-building.
  • Examples: Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomy, Direct Support Professional.
  • Duration: Typically 3–8 weeks.
  • Often funded by grants or employer-specific programs.

Customized Training Programs

  • Tailored to specific employer needs (e.g., OSHA training, equipment-specific skills).
  • Fully customizable curriculum and delivery.
  • Employers are the customers, leveraging programs such as Michigan New Jobs Training.

Apprenticeship Programs

  • One of Michigan’s largest electrical apprenticeship programs.
  • Four years, 8,000 field hours under a journeyman/master electrician.
  • GRCC provides 576 hours of Related Technical Instruction across 10 courses.
  • Completion prepares students for the State Journeyman Exam.
     

Student Process and Requirements

  • Complete FAFSA for financial aid eligibility.
  • Take the WorkKeys assessment (Reading, Math, Locating Information).
  • Receive program assignment and attend orientation.
  • Maintain 90% attendance and complete at least 70% of objectives.
  • Attendance is tracked daily and tied to financial aid and certification.

  • National certifications included (or cost is offset) in many programs (e.g., A+, OSHA).
  • Employment support with job developers for resumés, job placement, and employer matching.
