Information

The English Assessment requires you to write one essay. This is an opportunity to demonstrate how effectively you can read and comprehend a passage and write an analytical essay based on that text.

The assessment is scored manually by professional faculty in the English Department. Scores are typically available within 1–3 business days. You will receive a notification once your score has been posted, along with a list of recommended courses based on your results. Please note that testing staff are not authorized to interpret these scores for you.

• Canvas (via the MyGRCC portal)

Assessment Process

You can complete this assessment at your convenience from home through your Canvas account. Follow these steps to begin:

1. Log into the MyGRCC portal (opens in a new window).
2. Select the Canvas tile.
3. Select Courses from the global navigation menu.
4. Click on the English Placement course.
5. Carefully read all provided instructions and select the Start Here button to begin.

Important Time and Attempt Limits:

• The assessment is timed for 50 minutes.
• The test can only be taken once.
• There is a mandatory two-hour waiting period after your account is first created/adjusted before the test becomes visible in Canvas.

On-Campus Testing

If you prefer to use the on-campus testing center, no appointment is necessary. However, a valid picture ID is strictly required to begin the assessment.
