The English Assessment involves writing one essay that gives you an opportunity to show how effectively you can read and comprehend a passage and write an essay analyzing the passage. The assessment is scored manually by professionals in the English Department. Scores are typically available within 1-3 business days. You will be notified when your score has posted. You will receive a list of recommended courses for you to enroll in based on your scores. The testing staff cannot interpret scores for you.

Process
This assessment can be taken at home at your convenience through your Canvas account within your MyGRCC portal:
- Login to MyGRCC portal.
- Go to Canvas.
- Select "Courses".
- Click English Placement.
- Read the instructions and select the Start Here button to begin the assessment. The test is timed - 50 minutes.
The test can only be taken once. A minimum two-hour waiting period is required after a student's account has been adjusted before the test becomes visible.
If you need to use our testing center, no appointment is necessary on the main campus. A picture ID is required to test. Lakeshore testing is available by appointment only.
