Placement Testing Information

Placement Testing at GRCC

Placement Testing helps GRCC assess student skills in reading, writing, and math.

Who needs to take the test?

Students are required to take our English placement test for enrollment if any of the following apply:

  • SAT was taken before February 2016.
  • GRCC's placement test was taken previously (prior to October 2018) and the student hasn't passed English (EN) 101.
  • Student transferred in fewer than 12 college credits and/or their college GPA is below 2.0.

Students must take the ALEKS Math Placement test before enrolling in a math course if:

  • Their ALEKS scores are older than 12 months.
  • They haven't previously taken or transferred in a math class within the past year.

To see if you qualify for an exemption, please review the English and Math Placement Level Equivalency Chart.
