Body
This multi-year project, funded by the State of Michigan's 'Immigrant Student Success Grant' is modeled after a GRCC College Success Center fast-track initiative, which takes a lab-based approach to accelerate academic skill-building to help students bypass remedial courses. The ESL Fast-Track Workshop will initially be offered as a two-day workshop, with a four-hour session each day. Our program will be led by Dan Sullivan, Language Arts Lab Tutorial Coordinator.
Along with support from designated tutors, Dan Sullivan will facilitate each workshop with intensive coaching and 1:1 assistance with placement test preparation material. Following the completion of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to retake their placement test with the hopes of achieving a higher score. Throughout the grant period, the Dean of Liberal Arts and Dan will assess data from each workshop to determine if the content and duration of each session best serves students. Workshops will be free for all ESL students, with those placing at the lowest levels on the LOEP test strongly encouraged to participate to increase their scores.
Stay tuned for more information to share with students who may qualify and benefit from this program.
