The new "Hand Raise" feature - where students can raise alerts/referrals for themselves - has been moved from it's previously hidden location to the student's main menu in Navigate Student (Screenshot below). For GRCC Cares case managers, this means we may begin to see a noticeable increase in self-issued alerts and cases. This is an exciting development in the work of the GRCC Cares team, as students now have a streamlined method of accessing the network.
Due to the nature of student self-alerts, some of these cases may be slightly more involved than cases triggered by staff-issued alerts. For example, students may not select the most appropriate alert reason, meaning cases will be routed to incorrect departments and require re-routing. Also, students may be less likely to provide thorough details when submitting their alert, prompting a need to gather additional information before resolving or re-routing. These are just speculations, but something case managers should be aware of.
