SEM Plan Development Update, October 24, 2023

Throughout the summer and fall semesters, a cross college team has been meeting to support current enrollment strategies, as well as selecting a vendor to lead GRCC in the development of a Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) plan. Below is a brief overview of this team's work, updates regarding the SEM plan vendor selection process, and next steps.

  • The SEM Steering team is comprised of 35 members and they represent 24 different campus groups and departments (including Student Government)
  • This team provided support in the development of a Request for Proposals (RFP) to find and select the best vendor to help GRCC develop our institutional SEM plan
  • The SEM RFP received 9 responses. The scoring team narrowed this to two finalists (AACRAO and Interact)
  • Interact was awarded the GRCC SEM contract
  • Amy Soper (Communications) and Eric Mullen (Student Success) met with the Interact project leadership on October 19 to kick off our SEM planning process

The next phases of our work with Interact include:

  • An on-site campus discovery visit, which is scheduled for November 28-30, 2023. More details will follow including opportunities for Student Success division members to attend sessions and provide input and feedback.
  • Partnering with Institutional Research to provide various data sets to conduct an assessment of our recruitment, admission, retention, and student completion processes and outcomes.
  • Assessment of environmental market forces that impact enrollment outcomes, as well as a brand and competition analysis
  • Secret shopper analysis for online, phone, and other communication processes that support admissions and enrollment
  • Failure to return interviews to identify the factors that are causing students to stop out and not return

At the completion of Interacts discovery phase, they will review the data, findings, and recommendations with college stakeholders and take us through a process to develop a multi-year plan to improve our access and completion outcomes, and improve forecasting and achievement of future enrollment goals.

This is just the start of the SEM Plan development process. Stay tuned for more details and invitations to participate and help us bring this plan to life!
