Guidance for Time Off Requests During Peak Service Periods

For your future planning, please review and use this guidance when requesting time off during the week prior to, and during, the first week of the fall and winter semesters:

  • Timeframes under consideration,
    • For the Fall semester, this would include the full week prior to the start of the semester, and the full first week of the fall semester.
    • For the Winter semester, this would include the work days between our return from winter break (e.g., Tuesday January 2) through the end of that week and the first full week of the winter semester.
  • Time off requests during these peak periods should only be requested when there are unforeseen circumstances or when related to a unique opportunity (e.g., a child's graduation, parents anniversary trip, etc.)
  • Requests for time off during these aforementioned periods will be evaluated by your direct supervisor and corresponding Associate Dean or Dean before a decision is made.
  • Some departments and programs may not experience peak service periods during the aforementioned timeframes. In this case, time off requests will be considered based on these details (and these requests will still be reviewed with the corresponding Associate Dean or Dean in advance of approval.)
  • Department/Program Specific Peak Service Timeframes
    • This guidance may apply to other and/or additional timeframes based on departmental or program specific peak service periods. Departments may experience peak service periods outside of, or in addition to, the aforementioned timeframes.
    • If this guidance applies to requests outside of the aforementioned timeframes, your supervisor will provide these details in writing by the start of the new fiscal year (July 1), or at least 30 days prior to the start of said peak service period (i.e., they will communicate the start and end dates for other timeframes that require additional consideration and approval due to department specific needs).

If you have any questions or feedback regarding this guidance, please connect with your Associate Dean.
