Our CARES Network Oversight Team has launched a new feature for students in Navigate called Hand Raise.
Hand Raise allows students to “raise their hand” by issuing alerts on themselves, using the Navigate Student app on desktop or mobile. We are using the 2023 summer semester as a soft launch of this feature (i.e., not widely promoting) to observe and evaluate student utilization and our initial work flow set up. Based on summer use and evaluation, improvements will be made and this feature will be widely publicized for student use for the 2023 fall semesters (and moving forward).
A few quick notes about the initial Hand Raise feature set up:
- There are 10 Hand Raises categories for students to initiate a request for help/information:
- Tutoring Resources
- Technology Resources
- Food, Transportation, Housing, Funding
- Safety Concerns
- Hardship impacting ability to succeed in school
- Academic Advising or Career Planning
- Disability Support Services
- Mental Health Resources
- Financial Aid
- Help not reflected in other Hand Raises
- All Hand Raises result in an auto response email that includes basic resource information and is specifically crafted for the respective context
- All Hand Raises initiate a case in which a staff person will in turn initiate contact the student to learn more about their needs and provide support and resources
