Print Dialog Window not Opening when Clicking Print

Summary

The print settings window will not appear in Windows without having first set a default printer.

Body

Issue

When clicking Print on a document in any program, the print settings window fails to open or appear.

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows 11
  • PaperCut

Information

For the print settings dialogue to initialize correctly in Windows 11, the system requires a designated default printer. If no default is set, or if the "Let Windows manage my default printer" setting is interfering, the print command may fail to execute.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must manually set a default printer in your system settings:

  1. Click the Start button and select Settings (the gear icon).
  2. Navigate to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  3. Locate Printer preferences and ensure "Let Windows manage my default printer" is turned Off.
  4. Select your preferred printer (e.g., Find_Me_Gray_Ricoh) from the list and click Set as default.

For detailed, step-by-step instructions, please refer to our guide: Setting a Default Printer (opens in a new window).
