Question

What do the various enrollment statuses in Canvas mean?

Environment

  • Canvas

Answer

  1. Pending – The user has been added to a course but has not yet accepted the invitation, or the course has not started yet.

  2. Active – The user is currently enrolled and fully participating in the course, with access to view content, grades, and make edits based on their role.

  3. Completed / Concluded – The course has ended. The user may still be able to view it in a read-only format by going to Courses > All Courses. If the course is not clickable, the instructor has restricted access after the end date. In this case, the user will need to contact their instructor.

  4. Inactive – The user has been removed from the course. GRCC uses this status for all removals, including attendance-based drops.

  5. Deleted – The user has been permanently removed from the course. This status is rarely used by GRCC.
