Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, the Director of Infrastructure provides leadership for the Infrastructure Department, a department within the Division of Information Technology. This position is responsible for the technology infrastructure and services of the organization, including campus networks, servers, storage, email, enterprise applications, Internet access, mobile personal devices connectivity, telephony, authentication, disaster recovery and data integrity including backups to support the organization in meetings its objectives. This position manages the infrastructure budget which includes staff, professional development, hardware maintenance and related contractual services. As part of the IT Leadership Team, the Director must effectively communicate and collaborate with leadership, faculty, and staff across the College to support strong partnerships between IT and the campus community.  The Director represents the Division of Information Technology on College committees and working groups, ensuring that IT is positioned to meet the current and future needs of GRCC.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee technical management of Infrastructure systems including data network, servers, voice, email, security patches, regulatory updates and system upgrade

  • Explore new technologies and make recommendations that are in alignment with College goals

  • Manage Infrastructure production budget, planning and forecasting within budgetary guidelines established by the Chief Information Officer

  • Stay current with industry advances and innovations in technology through journals, seminars, workshops, tradeshows, and supplier representatives to evaluate new technology

  • Effectively draw other resources from other areas along with Infrastructure staff to plan and implement new GRCC projects

  • Provide expert advice and collaborate with customers and the Information Technology teams to utilize College services in the most cost effective and efficient manner for current and future projects, and maintain the College identity

  • Participate in critical meetings with senior and IT team leaders and establish long-term strategic relationships with key internal business partners

  • Oversee personnel management including performance evaluations, training/professional development, day-to-day operations and discipline for technical staff in accordance with guidelines provided by the Chief Information Officer

  • Plan, schedule and lead meetings with College constituent groups to gather directions and ideas for new projects that align with GRCC goals

  • Direct project teams to meet established objectives, delivery dates, and budgets

  • Collaborate with CIO, other executives, and administration to manage project priorities

  • Develop and maintain departmental IT procedures and contribute to IT Division and GRCC policies

  • Contribute to and provide leadership in the creation and review of the Division of Information Technology service catalog, goals, priorities, and strategic plan

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of the disaster recovery plan for the College’s computing and telecommunications infrastructure

  • Prepare responses to mandated audits

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

  • Performs other related duties as assigned


JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent

Work Experience 

  • Minimum 5 years management/supervision experience in implementation and support of infrastructure systems

  • Minimum 10 years system design, development and implementation experience with Infrastructure systems

  • Prior budget experience 

Skills

  • Ability to analyze complex systems

  • Ability to communicate with those of different technology disciplines

  • Ability to effectively communicate in writing 

  • Ability to manage people and projects

  • Ability to function under pressure 

  • Understanding of FERPA, HIPAA, and related privacy and security standards

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds
