The purpose of this position is to support and promote student success & retention at Grand Rapids Community College. The primary work of this role relates to serving as the campus lead for the Early Alert program and assisting with leadership of the student information resource known as the GRCC Learning Hub.
The Coordinator of Student Success & Retention is also an integral part of the leadership team within the Division. As a member of the leadership team the Coordinator of SSR participates in implementation of emerging student success resources and provides input into strategic planning for student success and retention at the College. This role also serves as a co-chair for our institutional Care Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Respond to Early Alert communications and determine appropriate interventions or actions to help promote academic success of individual students

Co-chair the Care Team to review and respond to elevated student support needs
-
Initiate communication with students to problem solve issues that may impede course success or overall program completion while providing personal attention in guiding them towards a resolution

Discern most appropriate resource for a particular student at a particular time
-
Provide recommendations regarding resources, initiatives, or other relevant campus services
-
Participate in a case management method of student support

Appropriately connect students to College departments and community agencies to help meet student needs
-
Maintain quality contact notes and appropriately follow up with faculty and staff regarding cases that they have raised via Early Alert

Leadership or Supervision of Student Employees of the GRCC Learning Hub

Provide campus leadership surrounding implementation, training, and use of Early Alert feature in EAB Navigate
-
Monitors data collection of faculty and staff interventions, student participation in retention services, communication, and student outcomes

Collects Early Alert data. Prepares and presents detailed reports for various constituents, regarding student retention outcomes and activities

Collects, reviews and analyzes data on the impact of interventions on student outcomes, together with other team members and makes recommendations for process and quality improvements

Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings to ensure a collective vision for project outcomes

Conduct training for use of SSR resources to help enable faculty/staff to leverage the resources to increase/promote student success

Ability to act independently and to maintain excellent professional and confidential relationships

Provide recommendations regarding resources, initiatives, or other relevant campus services

Encourage student utilization of all SSR resources

Serve as a campus lead and ambassador in promoting a culture of care

Be knowledgeable about College policies and procedures in order to inform and assist students as needed

Serves as liaison and participates in partnership with community partners to assist in connecting students to various systems of services and support

This role is a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs will be trained and responsible for reporting Clery Reportable Crimes to Campus Police as required by the Clery Act

Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Educational Credentials
-
Bachelor's degree required. Master’s degree in Social Work, Education, Counseling, or related degree preferred
-
National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC) preferred, but not required
Work Experience
-
Minimum two years’ work experience in student support required, higher education experience and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds preferred
-
Knowledge of student outreach and retention processes and programs
-
Knowledge of issues related to student success in community colleges
-
Knowledge of special program coordination and tracking methods
Skills

Proficiency with MS Office products and student information systems (preferably PeopleSoft Campus Wide Information System)
