The social media coordinator-content coordinator for the Grand Rapids Community College Communications Department is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the college’s social media strategy and content calendar, reporting to the associate director of communications. This position produces strategic content to support the college brand, and recruitment and retention campaigns. The position is responsible for the management of college social media channels and campaigns, including copywriting, production of original content including digital, photo and video content, posting and performance measurement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Promote GRCC’s brand through social media strategy development, content creation, execution and analytics

  • Consult with the GRCC Communications team to ensure strategies meet broader organizational needs and messaging priorities

  • Collaborate with department leadership to plan and execute social media strategy and tactics to support advertising campaigns and public relations campaigns for the college to increase brand recognition, and support college recruitment and retention initiatives

  • Produce, approve, and post original social media content, including copywriting, photography and video -- collaborating with graphics and video production as needed

  • Work closely with internal subject matter experts to create creative content to engage audiences on social media

  • Serve as a consultant to official GRCC associated accounts through routine meetings and collaboration to create a cohesive social presence for the college that builds lasting relationships with target audiences on various platforms

  • Foster active relationships with key influencers in program and service areas to connect them with varied audiences

  • Builds, maintains and owns GRCC’s official social media content calendar to increase awareness of the college's objectives and program offerings, and reviews and manages accuracy and appropriateness of published content

  • Monitor and analyze social media trends and how they can support the college's brand 

  • Explore new ways to engage on existing and emerging social media to reach target audiences, including creating initiatives to increase awareness of social media on campus and grow audiences

  • Deploy key analytic tools to measure effectiveness of social efforts and adjust course as needed

  • Participates in online conversations by answering questions, mediating conversations, and sparking discussions

  • Build and maintain best practice guidelines for how social media platforms are adopted, launched, and maintained

  • Provide social media training for all GRCC social media account owners on an annual basis

  • Develop a quarterly report of campaigns and collaborate with the department leadership to make recommendations based on results for future campaign and program initiatives 

  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Educational Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising & Public Relations, Social Media, Social Media Marketing, Multimedia Journalism, or Journalism

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred

Work Experience

  • Three years of experience managing social media accounts that drive engagement and action, preferably in a large organization or higher education

  • Experience creating and editing short-form video

  • Experienced photographer with demonstrated skills in photo manipulation preferred

Skills

  • Strong familiarity with using social media analytics tools to measure, adapt and optimize strategies and platforms accordingly

  • Fluency in handling multimedia content, with demonstrated skills in design, photo-editing and video creation and editing tools

  • Advanced knowledge of the essentials of social media strategy and execution, including best practices for different social media platforms and how each works to amplify and/or catalyze broader integrated communications efforts

  • Advanced copywriting, and content-creation skills with the ability to adapt style, tone, and voice to varied content types and audiences, while staying on-brand and on-message

  • Demonstrated experience devising and executing social media campaigns independently, with accompanying project management skills to complete projects under tight time and budget constraints

  • Excellent communicator and creative thinker, with an ability to use both data and intuition to inform decisions. A strong grasp of how digital communication can effectively convey and advance messages to various audiences

  • Strong collaborative and relationship-development skills in working across organizational teams and with the public. Politically astute and skilled in anticipating institutional concerns and coming up with workable solutions

  • Strong copywriting, copy-editing and proofreading skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, abilities, and sexual orientations of community college students and employees

  • Demonstrated experience in implementing best practices for search engine optimization including basic publishing practices, copywriting, link building, and optimization tactics across social media

  • Highly effective communication, networking and persuasion skills

  • Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills 

  • Excellent organizational abilities, good reasoning skills, and the ability to make independent decisions, work with minimal supervision, and exercise sound judgment
